A Brief History

Since 1917, Lions clubs have offered people the opportunity to give something back to their communities. Lions clubs have always embraced those committed to building a brighter future for their community.

Since 1947, the Mountain Home Lions Club has been proud to work to meet the needs of the visually impaired members of our community.  The annual Mountain Home Lions Club Auction is held each Fall and is our primary fundraiser.

The auction began in 1953 as a radio auction on KTLO.  We have since added the broadcasting of the auction on local XL7- TV.  Our auction has grown from eight to ten items per night to over 100 items; with revenue generated from the auction increasing from a little over $1,000 to well over $20,000.

With the funds raised from our auction, we have been able to help many individuals by providing sight care services they would otherwise be unable to afford.  The club pays for exams, new prescription glasses, canes for blind individuals, various eye surgeries, as well as supporting the Mountain Home Christian Clinic with sight care services.  In addition, we support MidSouth Lions, Lions World Services for the Blind, Camps for the Blind, and Leader Dog.
